Comparison Desk Accounting firms in Europe

An independent accounting comparison and research guide. We publish informational comparison content about accounting providers; we do not provide accounting, tax, payroll or financial advisory services.

Service categories compared

Educational comparison of accounting service categories: bookkeeping, payroll, VAT support, tax compliance, management accounting, annual accounts, financial reporting, cloud accounting and software support.

Accounting is sold as a bundle of services, and the bundles are not comparable until the individual services are defined. Each category below explains what the service produces, which attributes businesses usually compare, the questions worth putting to a provider, and how it is commonly priced in European practice.

This is educational comparison material about services, not advice about your own filings. Which services a business legally needs depends on its country, legal form, size and activity, and in most European markets some tasks may only be carried out by a holder of a national professional title.

How services fit together

Reading order for a provider comparison

  1. Recording. Bookkeeping produces the ledger. Everything else depends on it, so it is the first thing to define: who captures documents, how often the ledger closes, and who reconciles the bank.
  2. Recurring compliance. VAT support, payroll and tax compliance run on fixed calendars. These are the obligations that produce penalties when they are missed, and they should be priced as a defined annual scope.
  3. Closing and reporting. Annual accounts, management accounting and financial reporting turn the ledger into statements for the register, for the owners and for lenders or group parents.
  4. Platform and support. Cloud accounting and software support determine how the first three are actually delivered, who holds the licence and how easily the relationship can be changed.
